Linh Nguyen used our Fachkräfte explainer to get her Vietnamese nursing qualification recognised
The parallel-recognition route under the Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz is six months faster than the sequential one.
Linh had been working as a nurse in a Ho Chi Minh City private hospital for six years when she decided to move to Germany. Her Vietnamese Bachelor of Nursing was eligible for Anerkennung — formal recognition as a Krankenpflegerin — under the German Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz, but the paper trail she had been shown by two different agencies in Vietnam ran to eighteen months and cost over 4,000 USD in agency fees before a hospital would even consider her.
Our Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz explainer page walks through two possible pathways for foreign healthcare qualifications: the sequential route (apply for recognition first in Vietnam, then apply for a hospital job once recognition is complete) and the parallel route (secure a hospital pre-contract first, then let the hospital initiate recognition in parallel with the visa process, cutting the overall timeline by roughly six months). Linh read the page in Vietnamese — our volunteer translators keep the healthcare pages up to date in six languages — and chose the parallel route.
She applied directly to twelve German regional hospitals that our page listed as sponsoring parallel-recognition pathways under the Lower-Saxony-style framework agreements. Three replied. One, in Hesse, offered her a pre-contract conditional on her reaching B2 German within twelve months. The hospital filed the recognition request with the Hessian regional authority the day after she signed the pre-contract. Linh enrolled in a six-month intensive German course at the Goethe-Institut in Ho Chi Minh City and passed the B2 exam five months later.
Her Fachkräfte visa was issued in four weeks. She flew to Frankfurt and started her probation at the hospital a week after landing. The formal Anerkennung — recognition of her Vietnamese nursing degree as fully equivalent to a German Krankenpflegerin qualification — came through six months after her arrival. Six months, parallel route, versus the fourteen months the sequential route would have required and the eighteen the agencies had quoted.
Linh now mentors two newly arrived Vietnamese nurses at the same hospital. She has started translating our Fachkräfte updates for the Vietnamese nursing community in southern Germany. She tells us the thing that surprised her most was how straightforward the parallel route turned out to be once she had the map. "You just do what the page says."
“The Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz guide walked me step-by-step. German nursing recognition approved in six months.”
Outcome
Anerkennung as Krankenpflegerin, Hesse hospital employment, 6 months.
